Grammar :Tense Formula

TENSE: A tense is a form taken by a verb to show the time of an action or the state of an event.

A tense is a form of the verb which tells us about the time of action.

STRUCTURES

 

सम्झन सजिलोका लागि

S = subject

V= verb

O = object

V1=present form of the verb

V2= past form of the verb

V3=past participle form of the verb

V4 = verb+ing form

 

Tense is basically of 3 types :

 

1. PRESENT TENSE ----I play.

2.PAST TENSE      ----I played.

3.FUTURE TENSE    ---- I shall play.

 

 

PRESENT TENSE

• Simple present -I read.
• Present Continuous-I am writing.
• Present Perfect-I have eaten rice.
• Present Perfect Continuous- I have been eating.

 

Details:

Simple present: S+V1/V5+O. Negative: S+ do/does(not)+V1+O.   Question: Do/does+S+V1+O?

 

 

 

Present Continuous: S+ is/am/are+V4+O. Negative:  S+ is/am/are(not)+V4+O.   Question:  Is/Am/Are+S+V4+O?

 

Present Perfect: S+has/have+V3+O. Negative: S+ has/have(not)+V3+O.   Question:  Has/Have+S+V3+O?

 

Present Perfect Continuous:S+has/have+been+V4+O. Negative: S+ has/have(not)+been+V4+O.   Question: Has/ have+S+been+V4+O?

PAST TENSE

• Simple past-I played cards last night.
• Past Continuous-I was reading.
• Past Perfect-the film had started when I reached.
• Past Perfect Continuous-I had been waiting for you for a long time.

Details:

1.Simple past: S+V2+O. Negative:  S+ did (not)+V1+O.   Question:  Did+S+V1+O?

 

 

 

2.Past Continuous:  S+ was/were+V4+O. Negative: S+ was/were(not)+V4+O.   Question: Was/were+S+V4+O?

 

3.Past Perfect:  S+had+V3+O. Negative: S+ had(not)+V3+O.   Question: Had+S+V3+O?

 

4.Past Perfect Continuous: S+had+been+V4+O. Negative: S+ had(not)+been+V4+O. Question:Had+S+been+V4+O?

 

FUTURE TENSE

• Simple future-God will give more boon.
• Future Continuous-I shall be playing.
• Future Perfect-I shall have played.
• Future Perfect Continuous-I shall have been playing.

1.Simple future: S+will/shall+V1+O. Negative:S+ will/shall (not)+V1+O. Question: Will/ shall+S+V1+O?

 

2.Future Continuous: S+ will/shall+be +V4+O. Negative: S+ will/shall(not)+be+V4+O. Question: Will/shall+S+be+V4+O?

 

3.Future Perfect:   S+will/shall+have+V3+O. Negative:  S+will/shall+have(not)+V3+O. Question:Will/shall+have+S+V3+O?

 

4.Future Perfect Continuous: S+will/shall+have+been+V4+O. Negative:S+will/shall+ have(not)+been+V4+O. Question:Will/shall+S+have+been+V4+O?
