Rivers in Nepal (Topic)
(Introduction) Moving mass of water which flows from high land to low land is called river. Rivers begin or rise to flow from mountains or lakes. They flow through mountains, rocks and plain lands. They finally fall in to the sea or some other river. There are a large number of rivers in Nepal. Most of the rivers in Nepal rise from Himalayas or high mountains. However, some come from the mountain tops. The rivers which start from snowcapped mountains flow continuously. These rivers are permanent in flowing water. A few names of such rivers are: Koshi, Tamor, Gandaki, Karnali, Arun, Trisuli, Rapti, Sunkoshi, Narayani, Seti etc. Koshi is the biggest, Gandaki is the deepest and Karnali is the longest of all these rivers in Nepal.

We can irrigate our fields from the water of rivers so that farmers can grow different types of crops and vegetables in different seasons. People can use the water of rivers as drinking water. Water is life giving fuel for us. Without water we cannot survive so they are very important. We can get fish from rivers. The rivers of Nepal are very effective to produce hydro-electricity. Nepal can earn foreign currency if we produce hydroelectricity. We can row boat and raft along the rivers. Rivers can be used as the way to travel on boats and so on.
(Body) There are some disadvantages of rivers also. Rivers can create disaster specially in the rainy season. The people of Terai region are main victims of rivers. Every year they lose their property because of flooding. It is one of the most dangerous problems caused by river. If people pollute the river, other users may suffer from different disease like cholera, fever, vomiting etc.
(Conclusion) It is often said that Nepal is the second richest country in water resource in the world. Brazil is the richest country in water resource. If hydro-electricity could be produced, Nepal would have been counted as a developed country of the world. The rivers in Nepal are of great importance because they can play a vital role for the development of the country. They can be used to generate electricity, supply drinking water and provide irrigation. We can make good income from these rivers. However, only a little part of water resource is in proper usage. It is unfortunate that most of the water flows down uselessly. Therefore, we mustn’t pollute the rivers. They are our main source to get native as well as foreign currency. I request the government of Nepal to utilize the rivers properly. |
