Personal letter Writing

Personal letter is a written piece of composition. It is generally written to relatives or friends. It may contain expression of one's personal opinions or ideas or feelings on a subject.

A letter may be on different topics. It can have an endless variety of subjects. In class 8 you may be asked to write a letter on the given topic in about 150 words. Similarly in classes 9 and 10, you may be asked to write a letter on the given topic in about 200 words and in classes 11 and 12, you are asked to write a letter in about 300 words. Letter Writing

1.Heading

At the beginning you should write the address of the sender on the top corner of right hand side. Under it you have to write the date. In higher grades the address and the date may be given in question.

2.Salutation

After writing the address and date you have to write salutation like dear friend, Dear father etc. In the salutation we have to address or call the receiver stating dear.

3.Body

This is the main part of the letter. It may be written in three parts like opening, main message and closing. In the opening part we can express thanks and well being of both parties. In the second paragraph we can express the main message. It is the main body of the letter. There may be more paragraphs in this part. The paragraphs should be well connected. You can expand the body according to your level. Suppose you are the student of grade 8, you can write the body in about 150 words. If you are the student of grade 9 or 10 you can write the body in about 200 words and if you are the student of grade 11 or 12, you can expand the body in about 300 words containing some paragraphs. The paragraphs of the body depend on the words which the paragraph contain.

Opening: Thanks for the previous letter as well as normal message can be written. In the same way we can write other sentences about the recent activities and physical condition in this paragraph.

Main message: The subject matter of the topic is explained as much as possible.

Closing: It is the final paragraph of the letter. We can close the letter formally in this paragraph.

4.Subscription

Subscription is generally written at the bottom of right hand side. We can write yours, your best friend, loving yours etc. in this part.

5.Signature

Generally we write the name of the sender here. It is written under subscription.

Salutation   Dear Asmita,

Body

Opening

I am well here and I hope that you are also well there. I got your letter yesterday. I opened and read it. It was interesting.  I’m very much delighted. As you have asked me to write about the weathers in my region, I am writing a few words about it.

Main message 1

As you know I live in the plain Terai region, in the southern part of Nepal. The name of my village is Khairahani. It is in the eastern part of Chitwan district. The climate found in my region is sub-tropical. It is very hot in summer season. The maximum temperature reaches up to 430 Celsius.  During such days I feel very bad. I don’t like such extreme temperature. The monsoon brings rain fall in this season. When it rains, the weather becomes mild. It is very cold in winter season. The fog overcasts the atmosphere and the visibility becomes very poor. At that time the weather is troublesome for us. But in the afternoon and evening, the atmosphere remains clear and we feel somehow comfortable. In other seasons the weather is mild and pleasant. I like such weather.

Main message 2

It is rich in flora and fauna. Different types of plants and animals are found in my region. About 300 species of birds are found in my region. The common birds are parrot, sparrow, swallow, dove, pigeon, crow, mynah, heron, crane, cuckoo, owl, kingfisher, pea-cock, jungle fowl, wood peckers etc.Sub-tropical vegetation is found in my region. The common trees are saal, (simal) cotton tree, sisau, bakaino, catechu (khayar), etc. The fruits are banana, lichee, mango, guava, grapes, pineapple, jackfruit, peach, lemon, etc. The vegetables are potato, lady’s finger, radish, tomato, cabbage, cauli-flower, carrot, beans, snake-guard, bitter-guard, pumpkin etc. The farmers grow rice, corn (maize), wheat, mustard, millet, buckwheat, barley, lentils, etc. in my region.

Closing

Please convey my remembrance to all of your family members. My little sister Kanchhi says Namaste to all of you.  Ashok, this much for today. I look forward to your reply soon.  Thank you!
