Teaching Item: Condolence (writing)

Specific Objectives:  Students will be enabled to write condolence.

Teaching Materials: Sample Condolence (cutouts)

Teaching Learning Activities:  the teacher creates situation and tells about an accident where a reputed died and asks some questions based on the accident,. e.g.

1.Can we be happy at the death of somebody?

2.Have you seen condolence in the newspapers? etc.

After that, the teacher shows a model of condolence and asks the students to go through the condolence. The teacher encourages the students to focus on:

• Format

• Key words

• Language

• personal quality of the person

• Cause of demise etc.

 Then, the teacher explains each components of the condolence. After that, the teacher gives clues and asks the students to write a condolence as in the model given. For example:

Write a message of condolence based on the clues given below.

The students involve in writing while the teacher moves round and helps students if they need. Finally, the teacher asks some students to read out their condolence.

Homework:  Bring at least one message of condolence searching from a English newspaper.
