100. An Unpleasant Accident Situation
I always hear that man's life is short and good and bad works of the man are judged here in this same world. Life is a soft thing that can be destroyed at any moment. Death takes away life, without one's knowledge. Therefore, I think that it is always good to speak two words to each other in much familiar way.
Last Dashain I set out in a bus journey to Kathmandu. I got into the bus. It was my first trip to Kathmandu. My seat mate was a heavy Marwadi looking man. I was on the seat by the window. The man was vulgar , uncivilized one. He was irritating me all the time. I had to open and close the window panes at his wish.
He used to speak vulgarly. There was not any politeness in his words. He spoke Hindi language. It is a tradition to call one by 'Aap, even if the person is unknown, unfamiliar. Calling by the term "Tum" is not good. However, he called me by the term "Tum", I did not like the man at all.
I felt quite uneasy even while I was sitting. He covered half of my seat too. It was difficult for me to sit, turn the side and sleep comfortably. Of course, I did not have a wink at all. When the bus reached more than half way from Hetauda to Bharatpur, I heard a loud sound of hitting. Our bus got a halt suddenly. Other bus, that was moving eastward, had hit a passenger who had taken his head outside through the window. Some drops of the blood spreaded all over us. All were stunned . I jumped and took hold of the injured man. I asked the driver, "Guru, drive fast to nearby hospital." One of the passengers had written the number of the other bus. The bus was at a great speed with sound of Siren.
After fifteen minutes, the passenger was at Bharatpur hospital. The hiver took the bus to the police station. From the police, we heard that de former bus was also at Hetauda police station. The driver himself had taken it there. Though the patient had still some sense, there was les chance of recovery. The man's head was badly crushed and a lot of blood was gone. We stayed there for one more hour. We left with permission the police. In my return to the seat, to my wonder, I found the man stil fast asleep, now covering both of the seats. Such immoral and inhuman men are still found around us.
