  1. Bicycle

Bicycle is a pedal-driven two-wheeled vehicle that is used in cycling. It consists of a metal frame mounted on two large wire-spoked wheels, with handlebars in front and a seat between the front and back wheels.

The bicycle is an energy-efficient, non-polluting form of transport. It is estimated that more than 800 million bicycles are in use throughout the world. China, India, Denmark and the Netherlands are countries with a high use of bicycles. Nepal is not exception anyway.

When we look into the history of bicycle, the first bicycle was seen in Paris in 1791. It was a form of hobby-horse. The first treadle-propelled  cycle was designed by Kirkpatrick Macmillan in Scotland in 1839. By the end of the 19" century wire wheels, metal frames (replacing wood), and pneumatic tyres (invented by J.B. Dunlop in 1888) had been added. Among the bicycles 'of that time was the front-wheel driven "Penny Farthing with a large front wheel.

Bicycle is an easy, ordinary means of travelling. It is said that cycling is cheap and best. Most of the students in schools and colleges use cycles. They are allowed to cycle on the sides of the road. Many pedlers  sell their goods on bicycles. They can get through narrow streets to sell their goods.

As bicycle is non-polluting vehicle, it is popular in polluted cities. Governments should encourage cycling in the polluted cities. Cycling is good for body. It gives good physical exercise. Bicycle keeps our body fit, strong and healthy. Everywhere cycling should be preferred.
