110. The School Library

Long ago, Greek philosopher said "Knowledge is power". It is quite true. Library is the store-house of knowledge. It preserves the wisdom of the past ages. It is a place of study. Here we find books on various subjects. We derive great benefit from a library. A school is the seat of learning. Hence, it is quite natural that every school should have its own library.

The school library is quite different from the public and private libraries. In a private library books of the choice of a particular person are kept. Public library contains books on all subjects. It is meant for the general public. In a school library the interest of students is important. Here books on all subjects are kept. They benefit the students in enriching their knowledge.

The school library functions during school hours. Some school libraries function in the evening also. During the working hours any student can go and make the best use of it. There is the atmosphere of peace and calmness. Every student respects the rule of the place. The librarian who is generally an experienced teacher helps the students. He quides them to the choice of the books. Students go there during their off hours. The presence of the library checks students from joining undesirable company. It creates healthy habits in the students. The school library is an essential part of school curriculum. The experienced and trained librarian of the library guides the readers properly.

The library is very useful. Man always aspires after knowledge. The library satisfies this aspiration. Regular reading makes a man learned. The students regularly read in the library. They get the maximum benefit. They can receive books for home also. The library shows the intellectual and cultural development. The good school library is the symbol of good school. The good library raises the mental curiosity of the students. It makes them mentally alert. Unfortunately, Nepal is a poor country and her education is badly neglected. Most schools have no good library. Money spent on library never goes in vain. So rich man of the locality should donate generously to the school library.
