113. Democracy

The word Democracy has been introduced by combining the two separate words. They are 'Demo' and curacy'. 'Demo' means the number of people and curacy means the government of people or rule of people. There are different forms of government. Democracy is considered as an ideal form of government. Different people, philosophers and politicians have defined it. The best definition of democracy has been given by Abrahams Lincoln, the famous president of U.S.A. According to him democracy is the government of the people for the people and and by the people.

The representatives are elected periodically and forined the government in democratic system. The government runs according to the will of the people and rules the country. They rule as the voice of the people if not they are not elected in the next election. Every adult has the right to vote in the election of the representative house.

In democracy, the citizens enjoy some freedoms. They have the freedom of movement, citizens have certain rights alle duties. Every one must obey the laws of the nation provided by the constitution.

Democracy is based on multi-party system. The largest  party  forms the government. A democratic government always tries to ensure the basic needs of the people; food, clothing, housing, health care and education. If the government doesn't run smoothly there is no meaning of government. Democracy can be successful when people understand their duties and responsibilities. They should think not only of their own right but also of others.

Democracy is not without defects. The party that is represented in the government may neglect the other parties. People may misuse the power and commit in a crime. The parties of opposition may create troubles and obstacles for the smooth functioning of the government. Thus, there should be given good information about the rights, duties and responsibilities to every members of the society as well as the nation. There should be the system of check and balance of power. People should be encouraged to respect and love to others as he/she needs to be alive.
